7:37 a.m., July 6, 2012--The Francis Alison Society at the University of Delaware has announced its 17th annual competition for the Gerard J. Mangone Young Scholars Award.

The award is given to one tenure track assistant professor at UD who has shown extraordinary distinction through research and publications, especially where such research benefits teaching and the academic program.

FYI Stories

Task force

A faculty-driven self-study of the University of Delaware's broad goals in undergraduate education is underway to ensure that UD students of the future are prepared for tomorrow's challenges.

Suspect in jail

The University of Delaware Police Department has arrested and charged a UD graduate student with 21 counts of criminal violation of privacy for allegedly hiding video cameras in various restrooms, most of them women's restrooms, over a period of more than two years.

Nominations are made through departmental chairpersons or a dean or director in other units.

Applications must include a curriculum vitae plus one book, article or other work that the nominee believes to be his or her best work, and the endorsement of the chairperson, dean or director.

The Francis Alison Society is composed of 27 professors who have received the highest award given to a faculty member at the University. A committee of the society, with the advice and participation of all members, will judge the applicants. This award is one of the most distinguished honors in the University.

The Young Scholars Award includes a ceremonial recognition of the scholar at a special University occasion, a generous cash award and an honorary plaque that will be presented in the fall.

All nominations, through departmental chairpersons, or deans or directors, should be submitted to the Acting Secretary, Francis Alison Society, 15 Innovation Way, Room 103, before July 30.
