UD alumni clubs set new student send-off events, baseball gatherings

8:57 a.m., July 13, 2012--University of Delaware alumni clubs are offering a variety of activities in coming weeks, including special send-off events for new Blue Hens who are members of the Class of 2016.

The new students will have opportunities to network with alumni in Washington, D.C., Lancaster, Pa., New Jersey, Florida and Reading, Pa.

UD ROTC cadets will run from New York City to Miami this month to raise awareness about veterans' affairs.

Other activities include zoo trips in New Jersey and Florida, and professional baseball from coast to coast.

Activities on the schedule include:

Saturday, July 14, noon: Washington, D.C., new student send-off. The Washington, D.C., Alumni Club will hold a new student send-off at Quincy Park in Arlington. The event will be held from noon to 3 p.m.

Tuesday, July 17, 7:10 p.m.: Los Angeles Dodgers baseball. The Los Angeles Alumni Club invites Blue Hens to gather to watch the Dodgers host the Philadelphia Phillies at Dodger Stadium.

Thursday, July 19, 7:05 p.m.: Durham Bulls baseball. Blue Hens from North Carolina will gather to watch the Durham Bulls take on the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in an event sponsored by the Raleigh-Durham Alumni Club. The Durham Bulls mascot program, featuring Wool E. Bull, is coordinated by a former YoUDee, Nicholas Tennant, a 2007 UD graduate.

Saturday, July 21, 2 p.m.: UD Alumni Day in Dewey Beach. UD will hold its fourth annual Alumni Day in Dewey Beach with food, fun and musical entertainment in store.

Saturday, July 21, 5 p.m.: Central Florida alumni at Brevard Zoo. Alumni in central Florida will get together for an evening at the Brevard Zoo on North Wickham Road in Melbourne, Fla. The event will include dinner at the Flamingo Café.

Thursday, July 26, 6 p.m.: Reading Phillies baseball. UD alumni will gather to watch the Reading Phillies take on the New Britain (Conn.) Rock Cats.

Thursday, July 26, 6:30 p.m.: South Florida alumni networking. UD alumni are invited to a south Florida alumni networking event at the Hilton Deerfield Beach/Boca Raton.

Saturday, July 28, 7:05 p.m.: Aberdeen IronBirds baseball. The Baltimore Alumni Club will offer a night at the ballpark for Blue Hens and their families and friends as the Aberdeen (Md.) IronBirds take the field. There will be an all-you-can-eat buffet.

Wednesday, Aug. 1, 5 p.m.: Boston Red Sox baseball. The Boston Alumni Club will host an evening at historic Fenway Park as the Red Sox host the Detroit Tigers. There will be a pre-game reception.

Thursday, Aug. 2, 6 p.m.: Richmond Flying Squirrels baseball. The Richmond (Va.) Alumni Club will sponsor an event at the Diamond the Richmond Flying Squirrels take the field. Alumni can come early to picnic with the family and let the kids enjoy the Fun Zone full of inflatables and carnival games. There will be post-game fireworks.

Friday, Aug. 3, 7:05 p.m.: New York Yankees baseball. The New York City Alumni Club will host an event at Yankee Stadium as the Yanks host the Seattle Mariners.

Sunday, Aug. 5, 2 p.m.: Lancaster, Pa., new student send-off. The Lancaster Alumni Club will hold a new student send-off. The event will be held from 2-4 p.m.

Tuesday, Aug. 7, 7 p.m.: Northern New Jersey new student send-off. The Northern New Jersey Alumni Club will hold a new student send-off at the Cresskill Recreation Center. The event will be held from 7-9 p.m.

Saturday, Aug. 11, 10 a.m.: Northern New Jersey Alumni Club Family Day at Turtle Back Zoo. The Northern New Jersey Alumni Club invites Blue Hens and family and friends to enjoy a day at the Essex County Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange, N.J. The club's exclusive package includes discounted admission, lunch and much more.

Saturday, Aug. 11, 5 p.m.: South Florida new student send-off. The South Florida Alumni Club will hold a new student send-off from 5-8 p.m.

Thursday, Aug. 16, 5:30 p.m.: Reading, Pa., new student send-off. The Reading Alumni Club will hold a new student send-off at the Third and Spruce Café in West Reading, Pa. The event will be held from 5:30-7 p.m.

Saturday, Aug. 18, 5:30 p.m.: Delmarva Shorebirds baseball. UD alumni will offer an evening at the Delmarva Shorebirds game at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium in Salisbury, Md. The team will take on the Hagerstown Suns in a South Atlantic League game. There will be a buffet and fireworks.
