Newark Police investigate home invasion style robbery
11:40 a.m., Jan. 17, 2013--Newark Police are investigating a home invasion style armed robbery at an apartment of a University of Delaware graduate student that occurred around 1:40 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 17, in the 300 block of Wharton Drive in Newark.
The 26-year-old male resident was asleep in the living room when three men kicked in the door. One of the suspects immediately struck the victim in the head with an unknown style handgun, while the other two suspects went into the bedroom where they confronted a 58-year-old woman and a 47-year-old man who were visiting the resident. The suspects demanded cash from the victims and fled the home on foot after stealing cash and a television.
The 26-year-old victim, who is a UD grad student, was taken to Christiana Hospital for treatment of a laceration to his head. He was released after treatment.
Newark Police and the New Castle County Police canine team responded to the scene and canvassed the area. The canine team conducted a track for the suspects but they were not located.
The three suspects are described as thin, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall. All were wearing dark clothing and masks covering their faces. One of them was armed with an unknown style of handgun.
