UD, Lyons Companies set 2013 Economic Forecast at Clayton Hall

9:46 a.m., Jan. 25, 2013--Michael G. Oxley, former congressman and chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, will be a featured speaker at the 2013 Economic Forecast to be held at 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 12, at Clayton Hall on the University of Delaware’s Laird Campus in Newark.

The annual event, hosted by Lyons Companies and the University of Delaware Center for Economic Education and Entrepreneurship, brings together distinguished voices that influence, determine and interpret U.S. economic policy.

June 5: Blue Hen 5K

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

Oxley, who is of counsel at BakerHostetler LLP in Washington, D.C., will present his views in a panel discussion along with Michael K. Farr, president of the portfolio management firm Farr, Miller and Washington, LLC and author of The Arrogance Cycle, and Jon Hilsenrath, chief economic correspondent with the Wall Street Journal. Reporter Steven Russolillo of the Wall Street Journal, also a 2007 UD graduate, will moderate the panel discussion.

John R. Cochran, vice chairman of UD’s Board of Trustees, will open the event by presenting the James B. O’Neill Award for Excellence in Economic Education and Entrepreneurship, recognizing 2013 recipient Ric Struthers, former president of Global Card Services of Bank of America and founding management team member of MBNA.

Business and community leaders, educators and students will be in attendance. The speakers will make their presentations and engage in a paneled discussion.  Following the discussion, speakers will take questions from the audience.
