Episcopal Campus Ministry announces 'Journey to the Cross' at St. Thomas'
8:38 a.m., Feb. 1, 2013--The Episcopal Campus Ministry at the University of Delaware has announced a four-week “Journey to the Cross” in word, silence and song at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, 276 S. College Ave.
For four weeks, beginning Feb. 17, the 5:30 p.m. Sunday evening liturgy will transform into a contemplate service, where those who attend will enter into a holy silence, listen to the word, respond in song with simple chants from the communities of Taizé, Iona and Holden, and take time to light candles and pray around the cross.
Feb. 9-24: 'Galileo: 400 Years'
Feb. 9: Public policy issues
There will also be the opportunity to receive Eucharist at the end of each service. Each week will focus on a different scripture and theme, as follows:
Feb. 17: "The word is near you, on your lips and in your heart." (Romans 10:8) Bringing people’s hearts to the Heart of God.
Feb. 24: “The Lord is my light and my salvation.” (Psalm 27) Seeking the light of God in the midst of darkness.
March 3: “Beside Still Waters.” (Psalm 23) A service of healing prayer with laying on of hands and anointing.
March 10: “This fellow welcomes sinners and eats with them.” (Luke 15:2) A service of forgiveness and reconciliation.
