Courtyard Newark plans New Year's celebration

2:12 p.m., Dec. 18, 2012--Ring in 2013 at a special Rockin' News Year's Eve at the Courtyard Newark at the University of Delaware, on the Laird Campus in Newark.

Beginning at 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 31, the evening will feature a three-course dinner accompanied by Las Vegas-style entertainment with the music of Wayne Newton, Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra, followed by tributes to Johnny Cash, Bobby Darin, Buddy Holly and Elvis Presley and topped off with an oldies doo wop show by The Outsiders.

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

In addition to the food and entertainment, the package includes a guest room at the hotel, with special late check-out at 1 p.m. on Jan. 1; cash bar throughout the evening; dancing after dinner; party favors and a champagne toast at midnight; breakfast for two in the Bistro; and free parking in the hotel lot. 

Cost is $270 a couple or $199 per person.
