UD sets extended hours, locations for student services during move-in weekend

From graduates, faculty

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

As part of 1743 Welcome Days, many UD offices and departments will offer special hours and services through the weekend.

Buses

Four UD shuttle buses will be running during move-in day on Saturday, Aug. 25, from 8:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. After that there is one campus loop until 2 a.m.

On Sunday, there will be one campus loop bus throughout the day beginning at 1 p.m. Later, there will be evening buses and the Late Bird bus.

Dining

Dining Services will open the fall semester with lunch being the first meal served to new students in dining halls on Saturday, Aug. 25. Lunch will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Rodney, Russell and Pencader dining halls. Kent Dining Hall will be close for lunch but will open later for a “Meet and Eat” event for new students.

The “Meet and Eat” events will be held from 4-7:30 p.m. in Rodney, 4-7 p.m. in Russell, 5-7:30 p.m. in Pencader and 4-6:30 p.m. in Kent.

Also that day, complimentary light refreshments will be available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Scrounge Café in the Perkins Student Center, the Rodney Dining Hall lobby and P103 Pencader Dining Hall on the lower level. Outdoor grills will be available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the George Read Residence Hall complex and the Rodney complex.

On Sunday, breakfast will be served for new and returning students in Rodney, Russell and Pencader. A “Discover Delmarva Dinner” will be held from 4-7:30 p.m. in all four dining halls, and dinner for returning students will be served from 6-7:30 p.m. in all of the dining halls.

The regular fall dining schedule will begin on Monday, Aug. 27.

Housing Assignment Services

Located at 5 Courtney St., Housing Assignment Services will be open during move-in from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on both Saturday, Aug. 25, and Sunday, Aug. 26. Call 302-831-3676 with questions.

ID cards

If you still need to get your University i-card, the ID Office, located in the Student Services Building at 30 Lovett Ave., will be open from 11 a.m.-3p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 26. Call 302-831-2077 for more information.

IT Support

Students can contact IT in the usual ways – the Help Request linked from IT’s website and from the IT Support Center “help” website; by telephone at 302-831-6000 and by text message at 302-722-6820.

Support will be available from 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 25, and from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 26.

Students also can walk in to request help as listed at the IT website

IT will have support stations set up in the Rodney A/B Lounge, the Collins Room of the Perkins Student Center and Room 121 of Christiana Commons from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25, and from 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26. Staff will make visits to residence hall rooms if needed.

IT staff can help students connect their computers to UD's wired network (Ethernet), connect their printers (USB cable), and to connect computers, tablets, xBoxes, other gaming devices, iPods, smart phones, etc., to UD's wireless network. Staff also will be available to help with email issues, anti-virus and other tech issues.

Package Centers

Packages can be picked up the main package center in Room 156 of the Trabant University Center from noon-3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25, and Sunday, Aug. 26. Call 302-831-4381.

A north campus package center will be open from noon-10 p.m. at the front desk of Christiana Commons. Call 302-831-1245.

Parking

For move-in, follow directions from attendants to find the closest parking for each residence hall.

Please note: There are varying restrictions at each housing complex.

Also, pay attention to whether you are parking on the University campus or the city of Newark’s property.

Parking Services will be open in the Perkins Student Center from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25, and Sunday, Aug. 26. Visit the website for more information on permits.

Student Financial Services

Student Financial Services will have availability for walk-in advisement appointments at the Student Services Building at 30 Lovett Ave. from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25.

University Bookstore

The University Bookstore, located at 83 East Main St., will be open from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 24, and Saturday, Aug. 25, and from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 26. Call 302-831-2637 for more information.
