Timothy Dowling named director of UD Student Health Services

9:46 a.m., April 2, 2013--Dr. Timothy Dowling has been named director of Student Health Services at the University of Delaware, Michael Gilbert, vice president for student life, has announced. 

The appointment is effective April 15.

UD ROTC cadets will run from New York City to Miami this month to raise awareness about veterans' affairs.

"Tim Dowling has an impressive range of experience, including nine years of leadership at St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington and more than six years with a local family practice," Gilbert said. "I know he will make a great addition to our Student Health Services." 

"I am honored to become part of the University of Delaware family and look forward to leading Student Health Services," Dowling said. 

A graduate of Creighton University in Omaha, Dowling earned his doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, N.Y. He completed his osteopathic traditional internship at Massapequa General Hospital in New York and his family medicine residency at St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington. 

From 1998-2007, he held a variety of leadership positions at St.Francis in the areas of osteopathic medical education, the family medicine residency program, the skilled nursing facility and inpatient care, among others.

Since 2007, he has been an attending physician with Mill Creek Medical Associates.

Recognized in 2012 as Family Physician of the Year by the Delaware Academy of Family Physicians, Dowling is a member of the American Academy of Family Medicine, the American Osteopathic Association, the Association of Osteopathic Directors of Medical Education, the Delaware Medical Society and the Delaware Academy of Family Physicians.
