Coast Day transportation between Newark, Lewes offered to UD community


11:54 a.m., Sept. 13, 2011--Free bus shuttle service to and from Coast Day 2011 is being offered to University of Delaware students, employees and members of their immediate families.

Sponsored by UD's College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment and the Delaware Sea Grant College Program, Coast Day is a free event that celebrates Delaware’s coastal resources and UD’s marine research. It will be held Sunday, Oct. 2, rain or shine, at UD’s Hugh R. Sharp Campus in Lewes from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Finals shuttle schedule

UD Transportation Services has announced that the shuttle bus schedule during final exams will consist of all day routes operating on a regular schedule Monday through Friday.

Buses will depart from the Robinson Hall parking lot at the Newark campus at 9:30 a.m. and arrive in Lewes at approximately 11 a.m. They will depart from Lewes at 4:30 p.m. and return to Newark at approximately 6 p.m.

Reservations are available on a first-come, first-served basis and must be made by 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29. To reserve your spot, contact the Marine Public Education Office at 302-831-8083 or

Coast Day events include a number of fun, educational activities around this year’s theme, “It’s About You.” Visitors enjoy seafood seminars, research demonstrations, ship tours, marine critter touch tanks, a crab cake cook-off, and much more.

Coast Day is supported by DuPont Clear into the Future, Gamesa Corp., NRG Bluewater Wind, OSG Ship Management Inc., UTEC Survey Inc., Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, WMDT—CW-3, Lewes Historical Society, Lewes Chamber of Commerce, PNC Bank, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

While Coast Day parking and admission are free, vendors will be selling food and other items. There is no ATM on the campus grounds.
