Student action plan provides career development guidance

TEXT SIZE

1:38 p.m., Oct. 28, 2011--University of Delaware students now have a CareerMAP (My Action Plan) to follow during their four years at UD and beyond.

Launched in July by the University Career Services Center and the Center for Counseling and Student Development, the CareerMAP provides a four-stage career development process to help all UD students travel the sometimes rocky road from student to professional.

Campus Stories

Honorary degrees

Four distinguished individuals were recognized with honorary degrees at the University of Delaware's 163rd Commencement ceremonies.

Top grades

Three UD seniors were recognized for achieving the highest grade point index during Commencement ceremonies.

The CareerMAP is designed in stages and each stage builds on a checklist of 20 or more resources and activities.

Proceeding systematically through each stage engages students in an effective career decision-making model that will help them identify satisfying employment or additional education after graduation, and in the years to come.

Stage 1: Self-Awareness and Career Exploration. Gain insight into personal values, interests and skills as they relate to various careers through assessments.

Stage 2: Gain Experience and Learn about the World of Work. Develop insights and skills by engaging in volunteer work, campus organizations, research, internships and more.

Stage 3: Develop Career Management Skills. Build the skills necessary to succeed in the job search. Develop a personal brand and self-marketing tools.

Stage 4: Implement Career Goals. In the final stage, learn how to connect with employers, further the job search, or apply for graduate and professional school.

A detailed CareerMAP can found in the Blue Hen Career Guide available online in PDF format. See Pages 4-5.
