Campus Stories

From graduates, faculty

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

A showcase fair, “Off the Grid on the Green,” will explore diverse projects and programs on campus from noon-2 p.m. on the central Green.  In the event of rain, the showcase will be moved to the Trabant University Center.

The showcase will feature a scavenger hunt, tie dying, a bike clinic, plastic water bottle collection and giveaways.  Details, including how to participate in the scavenger hunt, are available at the Campus Sustainability Day webpage

Campus Sustainability Day will wrap up with evening activities, including Off the Grid: Unplugged, which will feature acoustic sets from live local bands and a clothing swap sponsored by Students for the Environment.  Bring your own mug for hot cocoa and enjoy an evening under the stars.

Alternately, the UD Food and Gardening Policy Committee will host a workshop, “Introduction to Permaculture,” led by Melissa Miles, the co-director of the Eastern Pennsylvania Permaculture Guild.  Explore the benefits of permaculture, which emphasizes an approach to growing food that works with nature, not against it, by focusing on sustainable principles, such as minimizing input and waste, using renewable resources, and thinking long-term.  The workshop is open to the public and will be held in 208 Gore Hall, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

The Sustainability Task Force is charged with fostering grassroots sustainability efforts across all areas of the University in support of the Path to Prominence.

Campus Sustainability Day is one of many initiatives funded by the generous support of the UD community by means of donations to the UD Sustainability Fund .
