New campus printing kiosks match the way students work

8:49 a.m., Nov. 18, 2011--University of Delaware Information Technologies (IT) and Residence Life have deployed new printing kiosks in two residence halls to make it easier for students to print their work, no matter where a student might be on campus.

“The new kiosks in Christiana Commons and the Rodney Commons fit with how we’ve seen students use computing and our network,” said Carl Jacobson, vice president for IT.

Jacobson indicated that providing expanded printing services is part of UD’s strategy for supporting the way students use technology.  “We see students using computers and mobile devices everywhere on campus. So, enabling printing from any computer on our network complements other changes we’ve made this year: expanding our wireless network and creating more spaces for students to work collaboratively with their own laptops, smart phones, and tablets.”

Bringing the new kiosks on line enables students to send printing to eight different campus locations:

  • Carpenter Sports Building (kiosk)
  • Christiana Commons (kiosk)
  • McDowell Hall computing site (rooms 111 and 113)
  • Pearson Hall computing site (room 116)
  • Perkins Student Center (kiosk)
  • Rodney Commons, lower level (kiosk)
  • Smith Hall computing site (lower level)
  • Trabant University Center (kiosk)

“From anywhere on our campus network, students can send something to one of these printers,” said Carol Jarom, IT Client Support and Services.

She added that students can submit work from UD’s wireless network or from an Ethernet connection to our network. “Students can send a report to one of these printers from their residence hall rooms, from a group study area in an academic building, or even while riding the bus into campus—then pick it up on the way to class.”

For instructions on how to use one of these printers from your Windows or Macintosh computer, view these instructions: Printing from your own computer to a VendPrint print queue. If you have questions about this service, contact the IT Support Center.
