May 23: IT BYOD workshop
LearnIT@UD program presents new Bring Your Own Data workshops
9:47 a.m., May 16, 2012--University of Delaware Information Technologies’ LearnIT@UD program offers regularly scheduled sessions on technology tools and records the sessions for subsequent viewing. IT can also help members of the campus community apply the concepts to their own data through its new Bring Your Own Data workshops.
The Bring Your Own Data workshops offer participants the chance to show what they are trying to accomplish and to learn more effective ways of working with their data.

The first in a series of workshops will take place at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 23, in the Smith Hall training facility, Room 010. The workshop will focus on Microsoft Excel’s PivotTables feature. PivotTables provide a fast way to summarize large data sets, making analysis much easier. After a review of basic PivotTable concepts, there will be time to relate what workshop participants have learned to the data they have brought to class.
Beth Maliner, along with several members of the financial services unit in the College of Education and Human Development, participated in a pilot session with the new format. “We were really pleased to be able to work with an IT professional with our own data to tailor Excel tools for our specific situation. In a generic workshop, it's sometimes difficult to see how we can transfer the knowledge to meet our individual needs,” Maliner said.
To see if the PivotTables feature might help with your data analysis, watch the recorded 10 minute LearnIT Express session, then register to attend the Bring Your Own Data workshop.
