Newark Police investigate fatal crash

10:24 a.m., May 1, 2012--Newark Police are seeking the public's assistance in the investigation of a fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred around 8:38 p.m., Monday, April 30, on Library Avenue just south of Ogletown Road.

According to police, a woman was crossing Library Avenue from the College Square Shopping Center in front of the Newark Free Library when she was struck by a vehicle traveling south. The vehicle did not stop. 

Several passing motorists stopped to render aid to the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene. She has been identified by police as Helen Yang, 76, of the 300 block of East Main Street, Newark.

According to police, the vehicle involved in the accident may be a 1998-2002 four-door Honda Accord and that it may be black in color. The vehicle may have front end or right side damage, particularly in the area of the right passenger mirror.
