March 13: Paul Schmitz to speak

Center for Community Research and Service sponsors talk on leadership

2:11 p.m., March 5, 2012--Public Allies Delaware, an AmeriCorps program of the Center for Community Research and Service at the University of Delaware, will sponsor a talk by Paul Schmitz, Public Allies CEO and author of Everyone Leads, on Tuesday, March 13.

The talk will be held from 10-11:30 a.m. in the Trabant University Center Theatre on the UD campus in Newark. Those who want to attend can register here.

Sept. 30: DELCAT Discovery opening

The University of Delaware Library invites the campus community to the official opening of DELCAT Discovery, scheduled at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 30, in the Reading Room on the first floor of the Morris Library.

Oct. 1: Lessons of love

Jayne Smith, who underwent a near-death experience while giving birth to her second child, will share her insights at a lecture that will be telecast in the Health Sciences Complex Atrium at the University of Delaware's STAR Campus on Wednesday, Oct. 1, from 3- 4:30 p.m.

Schmitz will share experiences and lessons from finding and developing young leaders across the country, as well as share his own life story and discuss how he arrived where he is today. He will describe Public Allies’ leadership model and discuss its impact about the young leaders it has helped.

In addition to leading Public Allies, Schmitz is co-chair of Voices for National Service, a board member of Independent Sector, a blogger on leadership for the Washington Post and a faculty member of the Asset-Based Community Development Institute at Northwestern University. 

In 2010, Schmitz was appointed by President Barack Obama to the White House Council on Community Solutions.
