Cassandra Simons, on the summer session program in London sponsored by the Department of English, shared this photo of Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee concert in St. James Park. “I have never heard a more whole-hearted symphony of British voices than when the crowd started singing along to 'Crocodile Rock.' It was moving to see such a diverse crowd come together in song to celebrate England’s most beloved monarch,” Simons said.

UD-Africa Energy Conference

Breakthrough technologies can do little to solve the world's energy problems unless they are rooted in cultural, economic, social and political reality, experts said during a UD-Africa Energy Conference held recently on campus.

Through the support of the National Endowment for the Humanities, a University of Delaware delegation will visit Cuba to observe art conservation practices.

This fall, students will spend a semester studying a variety of subjects in Argentina, Austria, France, Germany, Japan, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

As UD’s study abroad program nears its 90th anniversary, IGS has been able to award nearly $700,000 in both financial need and academic merit-based scholarships during the 2011-12 fiscal years, assisting 374 students.

“I would like to thank our IGS donors for their continued support of international education, the IGS Scholarship Committee for reviewing all of the scholarship applications and the Office of Student Financial Services for providing us with the students’ financial needs levels,” said Marie Gleason, IGS study abroad coordinator. “Their combined efforts make study abroad possible for many students.”

UD currently ranks fourth among the top public doctorate-granting institutions in the United States in its percentage of students studying abroad, with more than one in three participating.
