UD alumni clubs 'play ball' with special events at stadiums coast to coast

10:50 a.m., June 15, 2012--University of Delaware alumni are offering a variety of activities, from sporting events to lectures, in the coming weeks.

Many UD alumni clubs are offering special events at ballparks from New York to Los Angeles and points in between.

Veterinary graduates

In 2009, 14 students from UD's College of Agriculture and Natural Resources were accepted into veterinary schools, with several at Penn's School of Veterinary Medicine now graduating.

BHLP success

The Blue Hen Leadership Program has successfully concluded a third year of record-breaking student participation.

Activities scheduled for the coming weeks include:

Monday, June 18, 11 a.m.: Road trip from Lehigh Valley to UD golf tournament. The Lehigh Valley Alumni Club is coordinating carpools from the valley to Wilmington for a golf tournament.

Monday, June 18, 6:30 p.m.: Lecture, reception and exhibition at the Guggenheim in New York City. Joan Marter, a 1974 alumna, will speak on "The Perils of Progress: Artists and the Atomic Age," followed by a reception and view of the exhibition.

Thursday, June 21, 5 p.m.: Networking happy hour at Gary's Dewey Beach Grill. Blue Hens will get together for an afternoon of networking, light fare, drinks and conversation about the increasing utilization of solar energy in Delaware.

Thursday, June 21, 5:30 p.m.: Chicago alumni happy hour. UD graduates in the Chicago area will get together for happy hour at Vines on Clark in Wrigleyville.

Thursday, June 21, 6 p.m.: Evening of Conversations and Connections with Washington, D.C., Alumni. The Washington, D.C., Alumni Club will hold An Evening of Conversations and Connections with Washington alumni.

Thursday, June 21, 6 p.m.: Philadelphia alumni happy hour. UD alumni in the Philadelphia area will gather at the Alfa American Tavern.

Thursday, June 28, 5 p.m.: Wilmington Blue Rocks baseball. Join UD alumni in New Castle County for a fun-filled evening at Frawley Stadium as the Wilmington Blue Rocks meet the Lynchburg (Va.) Hillcats in a Carolina League game. There will be a pre-game reception at Timothy's on the Riverfront and a tribute to former Blue Hens football coach Tubby Raymond, a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.

Thursday, June 28, 5 p.m.: Baltimore Alumni Club happy hour. Join Baltimore area alumni for networking and conversation at the Heavy Seas Ale House on Bank Street.

Friday, July 13, 6:40 p.m.: Colorado Rockies baseball. Alumni in the Denver area will get together to watch the Rockies take on the Philadelphia Phillies.

Tuesday, July 17, 7:10 p.m.: Los Angeles Dodgers baseball. The Los Angeles Alumni Club invites Blue Hens to gather to watch the Dodgers host the Philadelphia Phillies at Dodger Stadium.

Thursday, July 19, 7:05 p.m.: Durham Bulls baseball. Blue Hens from North Carolina will gather to watch the Durham Bulls take on the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in an event sponsored by the Raleigh-Durham Alumni Club. The Durham Bulls mascot program, featuring Wool E. Bull, is coordinated by a former YoUDee, Nicholas Tennant, a 2007 UD graduate.

Saturday, July 21, 2 p.m.: UD Alumni Day in Dewey Beach. UD will hold its 4th annual Alumni Day in Dewey Beach with food, fun and musical entertainment in store.

Thursday, July 26, 6 p.m.: Reading Phillies baseball. UD alumni will gather to watch the Reading Phillies take on the New Britain (Conn.) Rock Cats.

Saturday, July 28, 7:05 p.m.: Aberdeen IronBirds baseball. The Baltimore Alumni Club will offer a night at the ballpark for Blue Hens and their families and friends as the Aberdeen (Md.) IronBirds take the field. There will be an all-you-can-eat buffet.

Wednesday, Aug. 1, 5 p.m.: Boston Red Sox baseball. The Boston Alumni Club will host an evening at historic Fenway Park as the Red Sox host the Detroit Tigers. There will be a pre-game reception.

Thursday, Aug. 2, 6 p.m.: Richmond Flying Squirrels baseball. The Richmond (Va.) Alumni Club will sponsor an event at the Diamond the Richmond Flying Squirrels take the field. Alumni can come early to picnic with the family and let the kids enjoy the Fun Zone full of inflatables and carnival games. There will be post-game fireworks.

Friday, Aug. 3, 7:05 p.m.: New York Yankees baseball. The New York City Alumni Club will host an event at Yankee Stadium as the Yanks host the Seattle Mariners.
