Trustee Tony Allen named Boy Scout Citizen of the Year
2:25 p.m., June 11, 2012--University of Delaware alumnus and trustee Tony Allen has received the 2012 Citizen of the Year Award from the Boy Scouts of America Del-Mar-Va Council.
The award is presented annually to an individual who exemplifies the ideals of the Boy Scouts of America and salutes their outstanding leadership and service to the community.

Allen, who earned his bachelor's and doctoral degrees from UD, is a member of the Trustee Committee on Academic Affairs. He also serves as an ex officio member of the President's Diversity Initiative at UD.
Allen leads corporate communications for Bank of America's Consumer Banking Division, which serves 57 million customers. He sets the organization's communications strategy and is senior communications counsel to the company's chief operating officer. He also is a key adviser to the bank's public policy team and sits on the Delaware Leadership team.
Previously, he was an executive vice president with MBNA, served as founding president of the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League and worked for several years as speechwriter and special assistant to then-U.S. Sen. Joseph R. Biden. He began his career by co-founding Public Allies Delaware, a leadership organization for young people.
