1:29 p.m., Jan. 5, 2012--The University of Delaware Laboratory Preschool is currently accepting applications for its 2012-13 full-day inclusive kindergarten.

This unique kindergarten program offers children the opportunity to learn and grow in an enriching classroom environment that nurtures and develops children's natural curiosity.

Events Stories

Jan. 27-June 12: 'Sumter to Appomattox'

The University of Delaware Library has announced a new exhibition "From Fort Sumter to the Appomattox Court House: The American Civil War," which will be on view from Jan. 27 through June 12.

Jan. 27-July 3: 'Coastal Zone Act'

An exhibition on "The Legacy of the Delaware Coastal Zone Act: Conserving the First State" will be on view from Jan. 27 through July 3 in the Morris Library.

Interested parents are invited to attend the Laboratory Preschool open house on Wednesday, Jan. 11, to learn more about the program.  There are two sessions, at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., on the UD campus at 459 Wyoming Road in Newark. Those who are interested in attending or would like more information can call 302-831-8556.

The full-day kindergarten class meets Monday-Friday, from 8:45 a.m.-3:15 p.m. The class is limited to 20 children, with one master teacher, a fine arts teacher and several pre-service teachers. This unusually low ratio of students to teachers promotes individual attention and flexibility.  Children must be 5 years old on or before Aug. 31, 2012, to enroll.

A nationally accredited and state licensed facility, the Laboratory Preschool offers an inclusive early education setting and serves more than 60 children -- ages two to six -- and their families.

It functions within UD's College of Education and Human Development. The curriculum is aligned with the goals and philosophy of the Inclusive Early Childhood Education programs in the UD Department of Human Development and Family Studies, the Common Core State Standards and the Delaware Content Standards and Recommended Curriculum.  It is designed to encourage children to explore the world around them and reinforces different styles of learning.

In addition to providing high quality inclusive programs for young children and families, its mission is to train and mentor undergraduate clinical students; facilitate research projects by University faculty and students; and serve as a site for professional development of high school students and early childhood education providers.

The recently renovated Laboratory Preschool is located on the southeast side of the UD campus on Wyoming Road in Newark. Call 302-831-8556 to schedule a tour or visit the Lab Preschool website for more information.
