Star of 'CSI: NY' to speak in Black History Month Extravaganza

2:02 p.m., Jan. 26, 2012--Actor and author Hill Harper will speak Friday, Feb. 24, as the University of Delaware Center for Black Culture holds its Black History Month Extravaganza 2012.

Harper will speak at 6 p.m. in the Multipurpose Rooms of the Trabant University Center. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.

Through June 2: UDon't Need It?

The sixth annual UDon't Need It? student move out program, in which students can dispose of furniture and household items, begins May 21.

May 29: STAR Campus town hall

UD will host a town hall to discuss the progress and future plans for the STAR Campus on Tuesday afternoon, May 29.

Tickets are required and are free with a valid UD identification card (limit two tickets). Tickets cost $5 for the general public.

Tickets will be available at UD box offices and through Tickemaster beginning Friday, Feb. 3.

Harper, who received degrees from Brown and Harvard universities, is the winner of multiple NAACP Image Awards and stars in the crime drama CSI: NY as Dr. Sheldon Hawkes, a crime scene investigator. He also has appeared in Spike Lee's Get On the Bus and He Got Game, and in Jordan Walker-Pearlman's The Visit.

Harper is the author of several books, including Letters to a Young Brother, Letters to a Young Sister and his most recent work, The Conversation.

A spokesman for Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Harper's talk will reveal how success can be influenced through a combination of personal achievement and helping others accomplish their goals.

He will sign copies of his books before the program, and the pre-signed copies will be available for sale after his talk.

The Feb. 24 presentation is sponsored by the Center for Black Culture, the Office of the Vice President for Student Life, the Cultural Programming Advisory Board, the Black Student Union and the Office of Equity and Inclusion.
