UD Police arrest two in connection with thefts from Carpenter Sports Building
12:23 p.m., Feb. 9, 2012--University of Delaware Police have arrested two Middletown men in connection with two reported thefts of iPhones from the University's Carpenter Sports Building.
The men, who have no affiliation with UD, entered the Carpenter Sports Building as guests, and in each of the incidents they were able to steal the phones from unsecured storage areas in the gym.
Arrested were Tyree Williamston, 19, and Cory Taylor, 22, both of Middletown.
During the investigation, search warrants were obtained, and the property of the two victims was located inside a residence in Middletown. UD Police report that both men were in the residence at the time and, during questioning, admitted to stealing the phones. Newark Police and Middletown Police assisted in the execution of the search warrant and with taking the defendants into custody.
Williamston and Taylor were charged with theft under $1,500, arraigned through the Justice of the Peace Court and issued $250 unsecured bond. Williamston also was issued a summons to appear in court at a later date for possession of marijuana. Both men were issued no contact orders with the University of Delaware as part of their bail agreements.
Members of the University community are reminded to keep their valuables secured when they are left unattended.
