Global travelers to be recognized at Feb. 8 men's basketball game


5:46 p.m., Feb. 7, 2012--The University of Delaware will welcome back the students and faculty who participated in the Winter 2012 Study Abroad program at the UD men’s basketball game at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 8, in the Bob Carpenter Center. The students and faculty will be recognized during halftime.  

James Butkiewicz, who has been faculty director of the economics department’s study abroad program in Geneva, Switzerland, for more than 20 years, will serve as guest coach for the Blue Hens for the game.

The United States Olympic Committee, the University of Delaware and the International Olympic Committee are partners for the eighth edition of the International Coaching Enrichment Certification Program

“This is a way to thank the faculty who lead the programs and to recognize the students who served as great ambassadors for UD around the globe through their participation in the study abroad program,” said Institute for Global Studies Director Matthew Robinson.  

More than 1,000 students participated in 50 faculty-led programs in 30 countries this past Winter Session. UD currently ranks fourth among top public doctorate-granting institutions in the U.S., with more than one in three UD students participating in study abroad programs.  The University will mark its 90th anniversary of offering study abroad in 2013.
