Jan. 14: Tomorrow's skating stars

Figure skating send-off scheduled at Rust Ice Arena

11:49 a.m., Dec. 12, 2011--The skating stars of tomorrow will be highlighted at the University of Delaware's U.S. National Figure Skating Send-Off Exhibition, scheduled at 5 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 14, at UD's Fred Rust Ice Arena on South College Avenue.

Performing will be skaters who train at the University of Delaware Ice Arenas and who are heading to the 2012 Prudential U.S. National Figure Skating Competition, scheduled from Jan. 22-29 in San Jose, Calif.

May 23: Ocean Currents Lecture

The College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment's Ocean Currents Lecture Series kicks off on May 23 in Lewes with Mark Warner discussing the future of coral reefs.

May 24: Adelante

The campus community is invited to attend the inaugural Adelante: Latino-Hispanic Graduation Celebration, sponsored by UD's Center for Black Culture, at 4 p.m., Friday, May 24.

Featured in the exhibition will be several skaters who recently placed at the Eastern Sectionals, including Isabella Cannuscio and Ian Lorello, who took first place in Senior Dance; Anastasia Cannuscio and Colin McManus, who took second place in Senior Dance; and Haley Dunne, who placed fourth in Senior Ladies. 

Also featured will be Melissa Bulanhagui, who is Philippine National Ladies Champion. 

In addition at the Jan. 14 send-off, a special salute will be presented during intermission to UD's 2002 Collegiate Figure Skating Team. Ten years ago, the team won the national championship. 

Tickets for the exhibition make great stocking stuffers or last minute gifts and are on sale now at $10 for adults, $7 for senior citizens and $5 for children 12 and under. 

Tickets are available at UD box offices and through Ticketmaster. All seating is general admission, and doors open at 4 p.m. 

The U.S. National Figure Skating Send-Off Exhibition is sponsored by Christiana Mall and the American Federal Credit Union.
