Sept. 7: Stone carvings
Works by master stone carver Gerd Dreher on view at Mineralogical Museum
8:19 a.m., Aug. 5, 2011--A new exhibit featuring works by master carver Gerd Dreher from the Herb and Monika Obboda Collection will open Sept. 7 at the University of Delaware Mineralogical Museum.
With his great attention to the detail of the natural object, Dreher brings life and beauty to his hardstone creations. Born in 1943, in the famous gem-cutting center of Idar-Oberstein, Germany, he continues the family tradition that began with his grandfather who produced objects for Faberge.

A ruby mouse on green zoisite, pictured above, is an illustration of Dreher’s skillful study of the animal itself and his ability to transform a single piece of material into that vision.
