First Step: Ideas for a healthier world

The College of Health Sciences invites CHS undergraduate students or teams of students led by CHS undergraduates to identify important health-related challenges and develop novel solutions to those challenges.

Events are scheduled as follows:

Undergraduate Research Scholars Poster Session

Sponsored by the Undergraduate Research Program, the Scholars Poster Session will be held on Friday, April 20, from 2 to 4:30 p.m., in the Multipurpose Rooms of the Trabant University Center.  This event showcases research conducted by undergraduate science, engineering and life science Summer Scholars.

Summer Scholars work for 10 weeks during the summer, learning how to conduct research by taking an active role in the process. Each scholar is sponsored by a faculty member who guides the student’s efforts to understand and engage in research.

For more information, visit the URP website.

Posters on the Green

Coordinated by UD’s Office of Undergraduate Research and Experiential Learning, the inaugural Posters on the Green event will take place at Legislative Hall in Dover on Wednesday, April 25, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Undergraduate students from UD, Delaware State University, Delaware Technical and Community College, and Wesley College will present posters of their research and community engagement projects.

Senior Thesis Symposium

The Senior Thesis Symposium showcases the work of senior thesis candidates at UD. This year, the event will be held on Saturday, May 5, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in Perkins Student Center. Candidates for the Degree with Distinction and Honors Degree with Distinction programs will present their research in a poster or brief talk.

To earn degrees with distinction from UD, these seniors have spent a year engaged in original research and writing a document equivalent to a master’s thesis. Many began undergraduate research in their sophomore or junior years, and their senior thesis will be the capstone of their undergraduate research experience.

For more information, visit the URP website.

Undergraduate Research and Service Celebratory Symposium

Sponsored by the Office of Undergraduate Research and Experiential Learning, this symposium will showcase the work of all undergraduate research scholars, service learning scholars and visiting scholars who have conducted research during the 2012 summer session. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 9, at Clayton Hall.

The majority of the students who will present have been involved in an intensive 10-week summer experience taking place in laboratories, studios, schools, hospitals and several international locations.
