Sidneyeve Matrix will address the Summer Faculty Institute on May 29.

May 29-June 1: Faculty institute

Summer Faculty Institute opens registration, invites ideas for sessions

TEXT SIZE

1:42 p.m., April 5, 2012--Although registration is now open for this year’s Summer Faculty Institute, organizers say they would like to do even more to customize the event for those who attend.

Organizers are encouraging faculty to not just register but also to volunteer to give a presentation or suggest a topic. The more input that is received from faculty, the more those planning the event can customize offerings to match what is most important to participants.

Sessions will introduce faculty to recent instructional research and the latest technological capabilities, beginning with a keynote presentation by Sidneyeve Matrix, National Scholar and assistant professor in the Department of Media and Film at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. Matrix will speak on Tuesday, May 29. Find out more on the keynote presentation page.

Deborah Allen, new faculty director of the Center For Educational Effectiveness (CFEE), will provide opening remarks.

Sessions will be offered Tuesday, May 29, through Friday, June 1, in 104 Gore Hall.

Faculty are encouraged to contribute their recent teaching experiences as they relate to the four daily themes:

  • New tools for student engagement;
  • Collaboration for innovation;
  • Making the most of everyday tools; and
  • An iPad institute day.

Faculty can also suggest a session topic without committing to present it.

The Summer Faculty Institute has a long history of bringing together motivated faculty and inspiring ideas. The format is informal, but informative in a collegial setting with technical assistance from staff.

Information Technologies staff will be available each day for individual consultation. These one-on-one meetings can help participants make connections that are personally meaningful and useful.

Visit the Summer Faculty Institute’s website to learn more about the event.

Prerequisite

Participants must bring a laptop computer or a suitable computing device to class every day. Power and data connections will be available at every seat. Those who would like to participate but do not have access to a laptop computer can contact ats-info@udel.edu in advance of their registration.
