Nationally syndicated travel journalist Peter Greenberg will broadcast his Peter Greenberg Worldwide radio show from the University of Delaware campus in Newark on Saturday, Sept. 4. Guests include Gov. Jack Markell.

Joseph Pika, James R. Soles Professor of Political Science and International Relations, was quoted in a Sept. 2 McClatchy Newspapers article about the influence of the tea party movement in Delaware's U.S. Senate Republican primary race between Congressman Michael N. Castle and Christine O'Donnell.

David Plouffe, a UD alumnus and fellow of the Center for Political Communication, was featured in a Sept. 2 McClatchy Newspapers feature about the 2012 presidential campaign. Plouffe managed President Barack Obama's campaign in 2008.

Research by Cole Galloway, associate professor of physical therapy, and colleagues at the Kennedy Krieger Institute on early signs of autism were cited in the Sept. 2 Los Angeles Times and Daily Mail (U.K.) following publication of findings in the September 2010 Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry.

Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard, Jr., Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted in a Sept. 1 San Francisco Chronicle article about a report linking higher CEO compensation to higher layoffs. Elson was critical of the report, telling the newspaper, "I am a significant critic of CEO pay, but I've never believed there is a linkage between layoffs and CEO pay." Elson also was quoted in an Aug. 30 Financial Times article about executive compensation and the Dodd-Frank Act.

Scott Douglass, executive vice president, was quoted in an Aug. 31 News Journal article about textbook sales and the “ground opening” of the new UD-Barnes and Noble bookstore on Main Street.

Kathryn Coyne, assistant professor in the School of Marine Science and Policy, and Mark Warner, associate professor in the school, were featured in an Aug. 30 News Journal article about their research on microbes and algal blooms.

Aaron Kupchik, associate professor of sociology and criminal justice and author of the new book Homeroom Security: School Discipline in an Age of Fear, was the subject of an article about his book and the issue of school security and zero-tolerance policies in the Aug. 29 edition of salon.com.

Muqtedar Khan, associate professor of political science and international relations, was quoted in an Aug. 28 Associated Press article about the debate over the proposed New York City mosque and Islam in America. “The joke is on moderate Muslims," Khan told the AP. "What's the point if you're going to be treated the same way as a radical? If I get into trouble are they going to treat me like I'm a supporter of al-Qaeda?"

Sharon Merriman-Nai, project director with the National Center on Elder Abuse based at UD's Center for Community Research and Service, was featured in an Aug. 27 MSNBC Red Tape Chronicles article discussing the allegations of financial exploitation involving heiress Huguette Clark and the threat of elder financial abuse. “The problem is probably going to get worse before it gets better, the way the population is aging,” she said. “But one hope we have is that the Baby Boomers are a generation of activists, and they will not go quietly. If we have an opportunity to put this issue on the map, it's now. The resources this generation can bring to resolve these problems can have quite an impact.” On Aug. 19, she was quoted discussing various aspects of elder financial abuse in an article for the Spanish language publication, Mercado de Dinero USA, and appeared as a guest on the Coach Lynn Motivational Radio Show featuring seniors' issues on the same date.

Kathleen Matt, dean of the College of Health Sciences, and Allen Prettyman, instructor in the School of Nursing, were featured in an Aug. 26 Christiana Health Care System's Focus newsletter article about the University's new nurse managed health center.
