9:13 a.m., Sept. 14, 2010----The Shaner Hotels' Hunter Hotel Investment Conference Award provides a University of Delaware Department of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management student an opportunity to attend the annual conference, which is the hospitality industry's premier conference for hotel owners.
The award is sponsored by Plato Ghinos, senior vice president of development for Shaner Hotels, the Marriott Courtyard Newark at the University of Delaware and the Shaner Hotel Group.
It will be awarded to the UD lodging module student of the semester in the fall term prior to the conference, which is next scheduled March 6-8, 2011, in Atlanta.
The lodging module student of the semester is recognized for exemplary performance in the lodging practicum. An alternate will be selected in the event that the student of the semester is a senior who is graduating after the fall term.
Each week, the Shaner management team at the Courtyard by Marriott at UD selects a student of the week based on the students' performance in the practicum rotation where the students learn by working in the hotel's various functional areas. At the end of the semester, the lodging module faculty, in consultation with the Shaner management team, selects a student of the semester.
