Located on the North Green, the fair consisted of fun activities such as a moon bounce, popcorn and cotton candy machines and ice cream from the UDairy Creamery, according to Marcia Nickle, UD emergency preparedness manager.

It also provided important information about the emergency resources available to students to help them prepare for the effects of a disaster, such as a hurricane or winter storm, Nickle said.

Partners in preparedness who gave out information during the fair included the New Castle County Office of Emergency Management; the American Red Cross; Delaware State Police dive and explosive ordnance disposal teams; Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Fire Company; the UD Police SWAT team, and the UD Hazardous Materials (HazMat) team.

National Preparedness Month is held in September to encourage Americans to take simple steps to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses and communities.
