The Directorship 100 list recognizes individual corporate directors from such public companies as Microsoft, Coca-Cola, Dreamworks Animation, Procter and Gamble and Xerox for their boardroom influence and leadership.

“The NACD Directorship 100 identifies the individuals who have made, and are making, a real contribution to corporate governance today,” said Elson. “I am delighted that I and my colleague Roger Coffin from the Weinberg Center were given this recognition. It is always gratifying to be recognized by your peers and in your field.”

“The Weinberg Center is playing an instrumental role in the critical policy issues affecting investor protection, shareholder rights and corporate conduct,” said Coffin. “To be recognized for our efforts is an honor. We are proud of the impact we have had on the national debate, and look forward to the future and the opportunity to work toward thoughtful reform in the governance arena.”

Writes Jeffrey M. Cunningham of the duo: “When Charles M. Elson is not teaching his students the finer points of corporate law, he is teaching them to journalists, corporate governance professionals and directors. In addition to being the chair in corporate governance and the director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance at the University of Delaware, Elson is also of counsel to the law firm of Holland and Knight. Roger G. Coffin, associate director of the Weinberg Center, has also played a key role in the success of the center.”

Elson formerly served as a professor of law at Stetson University College of Law in St. Petersburg, Fla., from 1990 until 2001. His fields of expertise include corporations, securities regulation and corporate governance. He holds a bachelor's degree from Harvard College and a juris doctorate (J.D.) from the University of Virginia Law School.

Coffin was formerly a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in New York where he ran the governance risk and controls practice for the financial services industry. Prior to joining PricewaterhouseCoopers, he was a senior official at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, D.C., where he was responsible for policy implementation in the securities markets and was a corporate lawyer at the law firm of Cadwalader, Wickersham and Taft in New York.

Directorship LLC is a provider of corporate governance news, research and boardroom intelligence for directors of public companies. The organization produces directorship education conferences, peer-exchange programs, webcasts, weekly newsletters, daily news alerts and research on a variety of boardroom topics.

The Directorship 100, which celebrates annually the most influential people in all areas of corporate governance, recognizes directors, CEOs, regulators and rule makers, as well as investors, auditors, the media, compensation consultants, corporate secretaries, professors and strategists, general counsel and corporate governance officers.
