Debra Hess Norris, Henry Francis du Pont Chair of Art Conservation, chair of the Department of Art Conservation and director of the Winterthur/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation (WUDPAC), was notified of the award in a letter from Lise Monty, chair of the Delaware State Arts Council.

“This is wonderful recognition for our graduate program, the field of art conservation, Winterthur and UD,” said Norris. “This award acknowledges the enormous strength, administrative support and value of our institutional collaboration.”

Founded in 1974, WUDPAC is one of only four graduate programs in the United States that educates and trains art conservation professionals. Graduates of the collaborative program have been responsible for the preservation of such irreplaceable objects as the Declaration of Independence, multiple drafts of the Constitution, the Emancipation Proclamation, the Star-Spangled Banner, the ruby slippers from the Wizard of Oz, Babe Ruth's baseball contract, the world's first photograph and architectural interiors from China to India.

The awards ceremony, hosted by Gov. Jack Markell, is scheduled for Oct. 4, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., at the Schwartz Center for the Arts in Dover.
