8:29 a.m., Oct. 11, 2010----University of Delaware volleyball head coach Bonnie Kenny became the 28th active NCAA Division I coach to reach 500 career wins as the Blue Hens defeated Virginia Commonwealth 3-0 on Barb Viera Court on Friday night in Colonial Athletic Association action.

Not slowing down, Kenny got win No. 501 on Saturday as the Blue Hens defeated the College of William and Mary 3-0 to improve to 15-5 overall and 4-1 in the CAA.

"Well that gets the huge monkey off my back," Kenny said Friday after reaching the milestone. "I've coached a long time, have coached a lot of good players, and have worked for a lot of great people. I have to give the credit to them and to the people that have instilled hard work and dedication into me -- my parents and my coaches."

Kenny is now 501-361 in her 26-year career, which started in 1984 at the University of South Carolina. She moved to the University of Massachusetts in 1993 and was named head coach at UD in 2002.

"I have to thank Bob Marcum (athletic director at South Carolina in 1984) for giving me the opportunity to coach the year I graduated college," said Kenny, who received a bachelor's degree that year from the University of Tennessee. "Without him, who knows where I'd be."

Kenny gave credit to associate head coach Cindy Gregory, who has been a part of 285 wins alongside Kenny. The two coaches joined forces at Massachusetts in 1995.

"It's very comforting to have her have my back all these years,” Kenny said. “She does all the behind the scenes work and dirty work but she has been a part of over half these wins, as well."

“It was nice to get (the 500th victory) at home," said Kenny, adding, "I'm just glad I don't have 500 losses."

The Blue Hens will take to the road for CAA matches at Towson on Oct. 15, at Hofstra on Oct. 22 and at Northeastern on Oct. 24. They will return home for matches against James Madison on Oct. 29 and George Mason on Oct. 30.
