10:47 a.m., Nov. 22, 2010----The University of Delaware Resident Student Association (RSA) attended the Central Atlantic Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls (CAACURH) regional conference, held at the University of Maryland College Park campus on Nov. 12-14.

Ten student leaders and two advisers attended. They were: Ellen Baca, Nicole Aizaga, Holly Smail, Audrey Wright, Maria Arbizo, Nicole Pomerico, Sara “Janie” Davison, Kelly Speier, Marisa Hauenstein, Ryan Kaczmarczyk, graduate adviser Kyle Griffith and adviser Licinia “Lulu” Kaliher.

Leading up to the conference, Hauenstein, a junior, spearheaded an effort to develop a bid proposal to be recognized for Program of the Year for the organization's large spring event, Resapalooza. The 20-page bid contained all details pertaining to the event, starting with goals and budget to program evaluation.

Once the bid was completed and submitted, the group met several times to develop their presentation for the CAACURH 2010 conference.

In addition, the group promoted the conference philanthropy project, Letters to Soldiers. A campus-wide competition took place to make 1,000 cards to be donated for recovering soldiers at the Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Weekly tabulations were taken from each complex, and the Ray Street complex had made the largest number of cards at the conclusion of the competition. With over 1,000 cards in hand, the group headed to the conference.

Upon arriving at the conference, the group engaged in all types of activities to promote student leadership and UD pride. The delegation participated in some programming sessions but their primary focus was the Program of the Year presentation. Inspired by the Resapalooza theme of “Carnival,” each delegate dressed up as a character corresponding to a specific section of the bid proposal.

At the conclusion of the conference, during the closing ceremonies, UD was awarded the Program of the Year award. In addition, it was recognized for large-school philanthropy for contributing over 1,000 cards. The group was also recognized for large-school spirit.

The regional board of directors also recognized Hauenstein for her outstanding contribution as the national communication coordinator for UD.

The adviser of the regional board of directors honored Kaliher for presenting four of the five adviser recognition training (ART) core curriculum programs. Kaliher received her ART certification in June.
