8:30 a.m., Nov. 30, 2010----Theatrical enchantment rules the night in the University of Delaware Resident Ensemble Players (REP) production of one of Shakespeare's most beloved comedies, A Midsummer Night's Dream, from Thursday, Dec. 2, through Sunday, Dec. 12, in the Thompson Theatre of the Roselle Center for the Arts.
The REP's imaginative interpretation takes the audience deep into heart of a mystical forest bursting with mischievous fairies, mismatched lovers, and a misguided band of would-be actors in this enduring tale for the entire family.
“The play is magical, mysterious and very, very funny,” says director Sandy Robbins. “Yet it's very touching, as well, because it's a play about love. One of the lines in the play is 'The course of true love never did run smooth.' And this play proves that to hilarious ends. A celebration of the follies of romance, jealousy, friendship, and love create a classic that is just irresistible.”
Along with the REP company of actors, Robbins has cast 11 community children and seven undergraduates of the University of Delaware as Titania and Oberon fairies, creating the sensation of a forest bustling with magical creatures.
Performances run from Dec. 3-12 with a preview performance on Thursday, Dec. 2.
General public tickets are $18-$24, with discounts for students, seniors and University of Delaware faculty and staff. Tickets can be purchased by calling the REP box office at (302) 831-2204, in person at the Roselle Center for the Arts, 110 Orchard Rd., Newark, or online.
