With expected attendance of approximately 100 doctors, scientists and student researchers, the symposium will engage the community in cardiovascular research and practice.

Attendees will include key researchers and educators from each of the four Delaware Health Sciences Alliance (DHSA) partner institutions: University of Delaware, Thomas Jefferson University, Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children/Nemours and Christiana Care Health System (CCHS).

UD President Patrick Harker will inaugurate the center.

“This symposium will become the annual event and serve as the nexus for identifying the expertise and resources needed to improve cardiovascular research in Delaware,” says Ulhas Naik, director of DCRC and professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at UD.

Mark H. Ginsberg, M.D., professor of medicine at University of California San Diego, will deliver a keynote speech in the morning entitled “Dynamic Regulation of Cell Adhesion in Vascular Biology.” Ginsberg's research is largely devoted to the understanding of cells' reaction to their surroundings, specifically cell adhesion mechanisms in relation to immune responses.

There will be several other talks by Naik, Samual Gidding of Nemours, and William Weintraub of Christiana Care Health System describing ongoing cardiovascular research activities at each institution.

Kirk Czymmek, associate professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at UD and director of bioimaging at DBI, will discuss the core instrumentation available for the researchers among member institutions of the center.

The event will also feature a research poster session and reception.

This event is free and open to anyone interested in cardiovascular research. To learn more about DCRC, register for the symposium, or sign up to provide a poster, visit the DCRC website.
