9:10 a.m., March 14, 2011----The late art collector and University of Delaware benefactor Paul R. Jones will be remembered during a special program, “Paul R. Jones: Re/collections,” from 4-6 p.m., Thursday, March 17, in the Mechanical Hall Gallery.
Mr. Jones, who died last year, donated scores of works from the Paul R. Jones Collection of African American Art to the University.
Thursday's event is being held in conjunction with the University Museums exhibition “Bodyscapes,” which both honors Mr. Jones and celebrates the growing collection of African American art at UD.
Recalling Mr. Jones and discussing the exhibition and collection will be authors of the book Living Art: The Life of Paul R. Jones, African American Art Collector, Margaret L. Andersen, interim deputy provost and Edward F. and Elizabeth Goodman Rosenberg Professor of Sociology, and Neil Thomas, senior associate director in UD's Office of Communications and Marketing, and the curators of the “Bodyscapes” exhibition, UD art history doctoral students Isabelle Havet and Cara Zimmerman.
