Reviresco June run

UD ROTC cadets will run from New York City to Miami this month to raise awareness about veterans' affairs.

Sam Beard, president and co-founder of the Jefferson Awards, said, “Our goal is to inspire students to lead in service. These honorees stand out.”

The UD students worked with Delaware high schools as leadership coaches through the SIA program. As coaches, they organized a statewide leadership conference for high school students and worked together to revise SIA leadership training to be more interactive.

SIA trains high school students in leadership. It currently operates in 32 Delaware high schools and has a mission to dramatically increase teen service. In 2010-2011, students in the 32 participating high schools offered 237,112 volunteer hours, equivalent to a federally rated value of more than $4.9 million.

The prestigious Jefferson Awards program was established in 1972 by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, U.S. Sen. Robert Taft, Jr., and Beard with the intention of creating “a Nobel Prize for public and community service.”
