Events Stories

June 5: Blue Hen 5K

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

The June lecture, titled "Environmental Monitoring: Understanding Fickle Weather in the First State," will cover the wide-ranging environmental observing tools used to track the weather and climate of Delaware.

“Anyone who has lived in the Delmarva region knows how drastically the weather can change from day to day and from one year to the next,” said Leathers, who will discuss such changes in weather.

Leathers will draw on his work as co-director of the Delaware Environmental Observing System (DEOS), a real-time regional monitoring system that provides data on weather conditions, stream levels, tidal conditions, snow depth, coastal flooding, and many other environmental variables. DEOS provides the information for use by emergency managers, decision-makers, researchers, and citizens.

For reservations, which are required due to limited seating, contact Michelle Scorziello at mkscorzi@udel.edu or 302-645-4346. Light refreshments are served at the hourlong lecture.
