Unsung Hero
Federici helped guide the Blue Hens' lightweight squad to outstanding regular season results, posting wins in the varsity lightweight eight against the University of Pennsylvania, Columbia University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Additionally, his second varsity posted victories against Penn and Columbia.
Six of Federici's top lightweights combined with two of the top heavyweight rowers to race as the varsity eight at the Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia, finishing third behind the University of Michigan and Florida Institute of Technology. Additionally, his next lightweight athletes were able to garner silver in the lightweight eight event at the Dad Vail Regatta.
"I appreciate the recognition of the ACRA on our program, but really it's about the guys putting in the hard work during training," remarked Federici, in his third year with the Blue Hens. "The high point of our season for the lightweight squad certainly was racing both UPenn and Columbia in the same day. The guys pulled out a nice win against Penn in the morning, de-rigged the boats, traveled up to New Jersey, re-rigged and beat Columbia. Both races were varsity sweeps, and I was really happy to see our guys do well against tough varsity opponents."
The Blue Hens' varsity eight finished second in the ACRA end of season poll, trailing only the University of Michigan.
