9:13 a.m., July 23, 2010----The University of Delaware produces an impressive return on investment for its students, according to a recent study conducted by PayScale, a market leader in global online compensation data.
UD was ranked 134th among the nation's colleges and universities for in-state students and 148th for out-of-state students in terms of the 30-year return on investment.
Even more impressive, UD was ranked 15th in the nation for in-state students with a net annualized return on investment of 12.6 percent and 109th for out-of-state students with an annual return of 10.9 percent.
According to this study, for in-state UD students, the average cost for college in 2009 was $71,670 and the 30-year return on investment was $650,600, as calculated in 2010 dollars, with a net annualized return on investment of 12.6 percent
For out-of-state UD students, the average cost was $116,300 and the 30-year return on investment was $618,000, with an annual return on investment of 10.9 percent.
“This is another measure that shows the University of Delaware is smart money,” said Provost Tom Apple. “UD is a top tier institution that offers great value to our students, both in-state and out-of-state. And, given our continuing Commitment to Delawareans, we are proud to be ranked as one of the best values in the country for in-state students.”
The report, which was highlighted in the Wall Street Journal, included both public and private universities.
The top five universities in terms of 30-year return on investment were the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the California Institute of Technology, Harvard University, Harvey Mudd College and Dartmouth College.
The Georgia Institute of Technology was top rated in terms of annualized return on investment at 14.2 percent, and was followed in the top 15 by Brigham Young University, the University of Virginia, the College of William and Mary, the Colorado School of Mines, Virginia Tech, the University of Michigan, UCLA, the University of California Berkeley, the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, the University of Florida, CalPoly San Luis Obispo, Texas A&M University, James Madison University and UD.
