9:50 a.m., July 19, 2010----The Downtown Newark Partnership and Out and About magazine will hold the 7th annual Downtown Newark Food and Brew Festival on Saturday, July 24.
The event showcases more than 40 craft and imported beers paired with creative food offerings from 16 of Newark's restaurants. No tickets are required, as this is a pay as you go event.
Beer tastings and food specials begin at 2 p.m. and run until 10 p.m. Restaurants will offer tapas menus to highlight their featured brews.
The first 2,500 guests will receive a Food and Brew Fest 7 commemorative five-ounce tasting mug. Guests may sample one of the restaurant's featured brews for $1.
Along with brew tasting and food specials, the event will also offer prize drawings, give-a-ways and entertainment. A day-of-event program will be available at the restaurants and at information booths located at Wilmington Trust Co.'s Main Street branch and on Elkton Road near Buffalo Wild Wings.
The all day event features the popular Hops and Shops sidewalk sale extravaganza beginning at noon and showcasing the goods and wares offered by downtown merchants.
Strolling musicians and balloon decorations will line the street, keeping guests in the festive spirit while shopping and strolling down Main Street and Elkton Road.
Saranac 1888 Soft Drinks is hosting a root beer tasting stand for kids on the Academy Building lawn where kids get their very own souvenir tasting cup.
Event attendees can hop a ride on the University of Delaware fuel cell bus, which demonstrates cutting edge technology that is significantly quieter and more efficient than a regular transit bus and emits no greenhouse gases.
