The Garden for the Community, located off South College Avenue in Newark, near the Girl Scouts building, is a community-wide effort to grow fresh produce for Delawareans in need.

Those who attend “An Evening in the Garden” will enjoy garden fresh foods, fine wine and live entertainment from Dodging Cupid while raising funds to help eliminate hunger in the First State.

The garden, part of UD's 350-acre agro-ecology teaching complex, provides a living classroom for students and community members, as well as a demonstration area for Food Bank culinary workshops.

More than 90,000 Delawareans turn to emergency food assistance each year and almost half of those people are children. With the economic downturn, the Food Bank's network of hunger-relief partners report a 30 percent increase in demand.

Registration for “An Evening in the Garden” is $40 per person, which includes dinner, wine and entertainment. Those who attend are asked to bring a bag of non-perishable goods. A student discount is available for $15 per person, and a UD identification card must be presented.

To attend, RSVP by 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 10, to Kim Kostes at (302) 444-8074, or via email at [kkostes@fbd.org].

Online registration is available at the Food Bank of Delaware website.
