10:57 a.m., July 15, 2010----Elizabeth Cahill, who most recently served as senior associate director of major gifts at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, has been named director of development for the University of Delaware's Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics.
“I am pleased with the hiring of Liz Cahill as the college's new development director,” said Bobby Gempesaw, dean of the Lerner College. “I know that the college administration, chairs and center directors, along with faculty and staff, look forward to working with Liz in developing and sustaining relationships with college alumni and supporters.”
Gempesaw added, “Although Liz joined us just recently, she is already reaching out to Lerner alumni and friends. Her experience in development and alumni relations will certainly enhance the alumni-focused activities of the college.”
Cahill said that she became interested in joining the Lerner College because “it is such an exciting, dynamic time for the college and University.”
“I have had the pleasure in my initial weeks to meet Lerner students, faculty and alumni, and the pride of this community is energizing,” Cahill said. “There is incredible enthusiasm on campus about the future of the institution. I look forward to building partnerships with the University community, alumni and friends to benefit students and strengthen the college's national and international brand.”
Cahill added, “I will be working closely with Dean Gempesaw to secure the resources needed to realize the vision laid out in the Lerner College strategic plan as part of the University's Path to Prominence TM. Together we will design and implement new strategies for increasing alumni engagement with the college -- an important part of the strategic plan moving forward.”
Prior to her tenure at the University of Pennsylvania, Cahill worked as director of development at the LeBow College of Business at Drexel University. Earlier in her career, she also assisted in directing university events at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va.
Throughout her 17-year career in development, Cahill also spent time working for non-profit organizations, including Gaudenzia, a provider of substance treatment and prevention services, and Operation Smile International, an organization that provides reconstructive surgery for children in developing countries.
Cahill has served on the boards of the Young Friends of the Children's Crisis Treatment Center in Philadelphia and the Pennsville Educational Foundation in Pennsville, N.J.
She holds a bachelor of arts degree from Rowan University.
