2:49 p.m., Jan. 18, 2011----The Student Athletic Trainers Club at the University of Delaware will host a guest lecture, “Management of Common Sport-related Injuries about the Foot and Ankle,” by Dr. Mike Shindle from 4 to 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 28. The lecture will take place in the Delaware Special Olympics Building, located at 619 S. College Ave., in Newark.

An orthopedic surgeon with Summit Medical Group in New Jersey, Shindle has been assistant team physician for the NFL New York Giants and the MLS New York Red Bulls. Shindle, who earned his bachelor's degree in biological sciences at UD in 1999, played on Delaware's ice hockey team, serving as graduate assistant coach and captain.

Shindle earned his M.D. at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore. His research focuses on sports-related foot and ankle injuries, rotator cuff repair, and articular cartilage injuries. His work on these and related topics has been published in a number of peer-reviewed journals, including Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, American Journal of Sports Medicine, and Arthroscopy.

Shindle is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, Arthroscopic Association of North America, American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
