10:46 a.m., Jan. 19, 2011----For those who are interested in entering the financial planning field, an information session will be held Thursday, Feb. 3, for the University of Delaware's Certificate in Financial Planning. The information session will take place in 230 Alfred Lerner Hall on the University's Newark Campus at 6 p.m.
Current U.S. Bureau of Labor statistics indicate that the position of personal financial adviser is expected to grow by 30 percent, which is much faster than the average for all occupations. Growing numbers of advisers will be needed to assist the millions of workers expected to retire in the next 10 years. Many companies also have replaced traditional pension plans with retirement savings programs, so more individuals are managing their own retirements than in the past, creating jobs for advisers.
"Financial planners must meet the gold standard to attract, retain, and benefit a desirable clientele," explains certificate program director Daniel Danese, a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Certified Licensed Underwriter. "Today, that standard is Certified Financial Planner certification, the most recognizable accreditation in a well-informed market place."
Successful completion of UD's program fulfills the education requirement for those seeking the Certified Financial Planner designation, allowing an individual to sit for the CFP Certification Examination. Additional certification requirements include work experience, ethics requirements, and a bachelor's degree in any field from an accredited college or university.
The University of Delaware's program is in its sixth year, with 121 graduates to date. The program can be completed in one year. The cost of the complete certificate program is $4,595, which includes all textbooks.
A payment plan is available. People who register and pay in full at (or before) the information session receive a 10 percent discount. University of Delaware graduates, including graduates of UD certificate programs, are eligible for a 15 percent discount when registering for this program. Classes begin March 16.
Those who are interested in the program can attend the free information session on Feb. 3 to meet the program director, faculty and graduates of the program and learn more about the certificate, CFP certification and financial planning as a career.
Light refreshments will be served. There is no charge to attend, but please reserve a seat by calling 302-831-7600 or visiting this website.
For more information about the Certificate in Financial Planning, including faculty credentials, curriculum information, and a detailed course schedule, visit the website, call 302-831-2746, or write to [continuing-ed@udel.edu].
The certificate is offered by the Division of Professional and Continuing Studies, co-sponsored by the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics.
