9:17 a.m., Feb. 22, 2011----Nominations are now being sought for the Julie Mapes Wilgen Award for Human Sexuality and Gender Studies.
The $1,000 award is intended to encourage and recognize outstanding achievement by an undergraduate or graduate student who has demonstrated a commitment to the field of human sexuality and gender studies and has shown an appreciation for diversity and for the betterment of society.
To qualify, nominees must:
-- Be an undergraduate or graduate student of any major at UD;
-- Have attended UD for at least one year;
-- Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 as evidenced by a transcript;
-- Demonstrate commitment to the study of or engage in the field of human sexuality and gender studies; and
-- Demonstrate appreciation for diversity and the betterment of society.
Nominations for the award should be completed online. Self nominations are acceptable.
Submissions will need to include:
-- A two -page essay by the student addressing their demonstration of commitment and appreciation as described above;
-- A current resume;
-- Two letters of recommendation; and
-- Contact information for the recommender and the nominee.
The deadline for nominations is Tuesday, March 1. The recipient will be presented with the award at the Honors/Steele Symposium by the Department of Human Development and Family Studies.
