8:23 a.m., Feb. 8, 2011----The National Eating Disorder Awareness Committee (NEDAC) at the University of Delaware is sponsoring a series of events and lectures to inspire and inform the community during National Eating Disorder Awareness Week, from Feb. 21-24.

According to NEDAC president Michelle Reed, a senior dietetics major, the week has a diverse mix of programming including documentaries, speakers, and discussions.

Topics include eating disorders in sports, supporting a loved one who is struggling, and “photoshopping” in the media.

A total of 11 speakers, including six UD faculty members, will participate.

Highlights of the week include:

“Pushing the Limit: A Sports Panel on Overtraining and Undernourishing,” Monday, Feb. 21, 6 p.m., Room 140 Smith Hall.

Presentation by Harriet Brown, author of Brave Girl Eating, followed by documentary Thin, Tuesday, Feb. 22, 6:30 p.m., Trabant University Center Theatre.

“From Model to Magazine: A Discussion on Photoshopping and Its Effect on Consumer Body Image” (with a demo by professional photographer Amanda Stevenson Lupke), followed by documentary America the Beautiful, Wednesday, Feb. 23, 6:30 p.m., Trabant University Center Theatre.

“Appetite for Life,” keynote address by Tracey Gold. Best known for her role as Carol Seaver in the TV show Growing Pains, Gold will speak about her battle with anorexia and how she overcame it, Thursday, Feb. 24, 7 p.m., Trabant University Center Multipurpose Room.

All events are free and open to students, staff, and community members.

The events are sponsored by SCPAB, Healthy Hens, Wellspring, Student Centers, Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Council, Greek Council, Haven, SGA, DRDC, the Department of Women's Studies, and the Department of Behavioral Health and Nutrition.
