The 25-member troupe from Northeast China will perform at five Confucius Institutes and universities, beginning at UD.

The Chinese New Year is actually known as the Spring Festival in China and is regarded as the most important holiday there. Putting posters of “door gods” on front doors, cleaning the house, hosting a large family dinner, and celebrating with a lantern parade, lion dance and fireworks are among the holiday traditions.

On Saturday, Feb. 12, starting at 7 p.m. in Mitchell Hall, an evening of traditional Chinese New Year festivities will be presented. The Jilin University troupe will be a special guest at this event, which is co-sponsored by the University of Delaware Chinese Students and Scholars Association and the Confucius Institute, with the support of the Delaware Chinese American Association. Admission is $5 per person.

On Sunday, Feb. 13, a poster exhibition will be held in the Roselle Center for the Arts. At 7 p.m. in the center's Puglisi Orchestra Hall, the Jilin University Art Troupe will present an exclusive performance of song, dance, short plays and more, from traditional Chinese opera, to kung fu and tai chi. The events are free.

On Monday, Feb. 14, the art troupe will present at Wilmington Friends School, starting at 10 a.m.
