2 p.m., Dec. 10, 2010----Top ice skaters from the University of Delaware's High Performance Figure Skating Center will be featured in the 2011 U.S. National Figure Skating Send-Off Exhibition, scheduled at 5 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 15, in the Rust Ice Arena on Route 896 in Newark.
A highlight of the program will be a special tribute to six Olympians who currently coach skaters at UD. Saluted will be
--Tiffany Scott and Philip Dulebohn, 2002 U.S. Olympic team members and 2003 U.S. National pair champions;
--Suzy Semanick Schurman, 1987 and 1988 National dance champion and 1988 U.S. Olympic team member with Scott Gregoryl
--Scott Gregory, 1984 U.S. National dance bronze medalist, 1984 U.S. Olympic team member with Elisa Spitz, 1987 and 1988 National dance champion and 1988 U.S. Olympic team member with Suzy Semanick;
--Barbara Roles-Williams. 1962 National champion and 1960 U.S. Olympic bronze medalist; and
--Ron Ludington, 1957-60 National pair champion, 1960 U.S. Olympic pairs bronze medalist and a member of the U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Fame, the World Hall of Fame, the Delaware Sports Hall of Fame, the ISI Hall of Fame, the PSA Hall of Fame, and director of UD's Ice Skating Science Development Center from 1988-2010.
The Olympians will be available to sign autographs at intermission, and Gregory also will be signing copies of his new book, Champion Mindset.
Tickets for the Jan. 15 skating exhibition are now on sale at the Trabant University Center and Bob Carpenter Center box offices and will be available the day of the show at the Rust Ice Arena, beginning at 4 p.m., when doors open. Ticket prices are $10 for adults, $7 for UD students and senior citizens and $5 for children 12 and under.
Thirty-two skaters from UD have qualified for senior and junior national teams after the Eastern sectional championships. The 2011 U.S. Figure Skating Championships will be held Jan. 22-30 in Greensboro, N.C., and the U.S. Junior Figure Skating Championships will be held Dec. 14-18 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
