8:44 a.m., Aug. 26, 2010----Patti Solis Doyle, longtime confidante to Hillary Clinton who managed the vice presidential campaign of Joe Biden in 2008, will open the University of Delaware's National Agenda 2010 speaker series with a presentation at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 15, in Mitchell Hall.

Solis Doyle, who will speak on the topic “Playing the Game,” has a long history with the Clintons and was one of the first staff members hired to work on the presidential campaign of Bill Clinton, then governor of Arkansas, in 1992.

Solis Doyle served in the White House as an assistant to President Clinton and as director of scheduling and advance for the First Lady. In this capacity, she worked to promote Clinton administration policies on children, health care and women's issues.

She worked on Hillary Clinton's U.S. Senate races and also her presidential campaign in 2008, becoming the first Latina to manage a presidential campaign. After a shakeup, she joined the staff of then-candidate Barack Obama and managed Biden's vice presidential campaign.

Solis Doyle received the 2007 Latinas of Excellence Award from Hispanic Magazine for her accomplishments in the area of government, politics and civil leadership, and the Siempre Inspiran award from Siempre Mujer magazine, which honors remarkable Latinas whose achievements and contributions to their communities are helping shape the future of Hispanic women in this country. Hispanic Business Magazine counted her among America's 100 Most Influential Hispanics.

Now, Solis Doyle consults for Utrecht & Phillips and is president of Solis Strategies, a company that offers strategic communication and political advice. She earned her bachelor's degree in communications from Northwestern University.

National Agenda 2010 is sponsored by the University of Delaware Center for Political Communication. The Sept. 15 lecture is presented with the support of students in the departments of Women's Studies and Political Science and International Relations.

Wednesday, Sept. 29, 7:30 p.m., Mitchell Hall: Jim Crounse, a top Democratic direct mail consultant, will speak on “Reaching the Voters.”

Wednesday, Oct. 6, 7:30 p.m., Mitchell Hall, Delaware Debates, featuring candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives.

Wednesday, Oct. 13, 7:30 p.m., Mitchell Hall, Delaware Debates, featuring candidates for the U.S. Senate.

Wednesday, Oct. 20, 7:30 p.m. Mitchell Hall, Politico.com reporter Kenneth P. Vogel will speak on “Corporate Influences on Politics” as part of Freedom of Speech Week.

Monday, Oct. 25, 8:30 p.m., Bob Carpenter Center, UD Speaks will present an election eve presentation by Republican Karl Rove and Democrat Howard Dean.

Wednesday, Nov. 10, 7:30 p.m., Mitchell Hall, David Plouffe, a UD alumnus, fellow of the Center for Political Communication and adviser to President Barack Obama, will speak on “After the Election: What Next for Obama?”

Wednesday, Nov. 17, 7:30 p.m., Mitchell Hall, Amos Guiora, professor of law at the University of Utah, will speak on “Freedom From Religion: Managing Domestic Terrorism.”
